Today’s Top Ten Island Escape was scheduled to be about Ko Lanta, Thailand, but since I’ve written about this fabulous place before, I thought it fitting to move right along to the next island escape on our list, one that I’d admittedly never heard of before. Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam is the focus of today’s post.
Vietnam’s largest island, Phu Quoc lies awfully close to Cambodia and is famous for its gorgeous beaches and sunsets but also for its exportation of fish sauce and black pepper. This active commercial aspect of the area means that while tourism is important to the island, it’s not the only way in which inhabitants survive. Though the island is rainy in summertime, the climate is moderate and allows for beach vacations year round.
Locals and international chains alike have recognised the amazing potential of Phu Quoc as a tourist destination only in recent years and resorts have been popping up across this relatively small island. Some fantastic deals will allow you to truly relax and explore this laid-back island so why not add it to your list of places to visit in 2011?
