With the advent of the internet, some simple things like sending long-hand letters and travel postcards seem like things of the past. Where once days touring new towns always involved looking for the perfect postcard to send to friends and loved ones back home, these days it seems as though the concept longer exists.

I discovered some fantastic old postcards that I’d saved in a recent spring cleaning adventure at my home and was thrilled to see the brief messages scrawled by friends on their journeys.  The colourful pictures on the fronts offer a great mental journey to distant lands and it’s always so nice to know that people are thinking of you when they’re away.

Finding those postcards led me to search for the ones featured here and to ask the question – does anyone send postcards whilst travelling anymore?  I can’t remember when the last time was that I sent a postcard from the road and am curious to know who keeps up the tradition?

When I found these images, it made me realise what a great look into the past these postcards are and how truly easy they are to send and save.  I love seeing the old-fashioned handwriting and truncated street addresses from the early 20th century, along with old photographs of places I’ve seen before to see how they’ve changed in the years gone by.

Even if you don’t send postcards anymore, do you still receive them? And if you do, do you save them to be discovered again in the future or are they destined for the bin?  I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback – let me know, and in the meantime enjoy these great images!
