After last week’s look at Zurich, Switzerland that came in as the number two best place to live in the world, today we reach the end of our series with a look at the number one city and the place considered to be the best in the world, Vienna, Austria. Located in close proximity to Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, Vienna offers a fantastic mix of traditional Swiss standbys and international influences.
Home to more than a quarter of Austria’s population, Vienna attracts Austrians and international residents alike as a business centre and hotbed of culture in this region. Home to the European headquarters of the United Nations, along with many other private international companies, the percentage of expatriates and international residents is quite high.

Though it was originally settled as early as 500 BC, Vienna has changed with the times while also keeping much of its historical feel. Much of the city was destroyed in World War II, but many of the historical buildings and monuments were reconstructed to match the originals which contributes to the traditional quarters of the city.

However, the true beauty of Vienna is the abundance of cultural activities in the city. Theatre, opera and classical music are the three cornerstones of the arts in Vienna and all have a longstanding history and fantastic reputations in this area. With many different theatres and concert halls to choose from, along with a rotating schedule of special events, shows and concerts, it seems like you’ll never run out of things to watch and enjoy in Vienna.
