As you’ve seen with my street art features on cities like San Francisco and Barcelona, urban art can really capture the pulse of a city.  Today we’re taking a trip to the sunny coast of southern California to see what street art can be found on display in Los Angeles.  This iconic city by the sea is known for being the home to the American film industry but is also a centre of immigration and opportunity that means a host of cultural influences are at play across the region.  Let’s see if these influences can be seen in these examples of Los Angeles street art!

My favourite space invader artist from Paris has invaded Los Angeles as well with his 80’s video game-inspired critters in mosaic format all around town!

Obama as Superman street art is a nod to the left-leaning politics of Los Angeles!

This mustachio-ed Mexican man is painted on the side of a building in the Silver Lake area of Los Angeles.  One of the most multicultural cities in the United States, and a place in which the population is nearly one-half Latino, I thought this mural was appropriate to include as a recognition of this Latino flavour and culture.

I love this paining that is wacky and creative, a bit like the population of Los Angeles!  With one in six people employed in “creative industry” in this city (films, television and more) Los Angeles is the place to be for creative minds. Let’s get falafel!

These red corporate logos appear to be bleeding down this Los Angeles wall. Perhaps a statement against corporate America, I love the concept and the drama of this painting.

“Love Me” is a perfect statement in a validation-obsessed land like Southern California.  Perhaps this artist was truly looking for love or maybe he or she just wanted to comment on this cultural phenomenon of attention-seeking?

Of course, no post about Los Angeles would be complete without mention of the championship Los Angeles Lakers basketball team which just celebrated winning the national title for the second year in a row.  Star player Kobe Bryant is pictured here, using a street art format that has been popular in this area for years.

Hehe I know, I love those little guys! I went on Space Invaders hunts all the time when I lived in Paris, but I love that they are popping up all over different cities now too!
