We’re travelling nearly all the way to the opposite end of the earth for today’s next in our Best Places to Live travel series.  Last week, we highlighted Vancouver, Canada and today’s feature is tied in fourth place with this North American city.

Today’s city, Auckland, New Zealand looks to me like paradise from the photographs that I’ve seen of it so it’s easy to see why it would be one of the best places to live aesthetically.  A city that benefits from being surrounded by water on nearly all sides, Auckland residents also enjoy a bustling and modern city centre.

Besides being the city with the largest population of Polynesian people in the world, Auckland is also home to huge immigrant populations from relatively nearby Asian countries.  This fantastic blend of cultures makes this metropolis a place with plenty to offer both residents and visitors.  The fact that unemployment is low and salaries quite high only helps increase the popularity of this gorgeous city.

The city on the list of top places to live with the most beachfront area, Auckland enjoys a relatively temperate climate year-round.  Known by some as “the city of sails” because of the number of sailboats in the various harbours around the city, Auckland residents enjoy plenty of outdoor activities.  Sailing and yachting are some of the favourite pastimes, though the huge amount of open park space in and around the city offer plenty of spots for the country’s most popular sports – rugby and cricket.

I’m adding Auckland towards the top of my “must-visit” travel list partly because of how peaceful it looks.  All of the beaches and boats send me into daydream mode almost immediately, and now I can’t wait to see the city for myself.

Take a trip to Auckland this fall.  Though it’s quite far from the UK, you’ll be transported to another world and I’m sure will experience things you’ve only dreamed of.  I can’t wait to go myself!  Flights from London to Auckland this fall start at £787 return, so book early and avoid peak travel days and times to guarantee the lowest prices.
