Travelfusion's Social Media Officer, I manage all of our online marketing and presence on Twitter, Facebook, our blog and more. I love my job!

I’m back from a whirlwind trip “home” to the United States and though I had a wonderful time, I’m enjoying getting back into the swing of things here at Travelfusion.  Though I didn’t go back to my native city of Los Angeles this time, I did enjoy both the San Francisco suburbs and the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area while I was there.  However, I also realised how much fun can be had “travelling” in my own city, exploring and seeing new things in London over the past weekend.  Here are a few of my favourite things that I saw and did over the past two weeks, both at home and abroad. It really goes to show you that sometimes the best adventures don’t require a 13-hour plane ride and jet lag and great fun can be found in your own backyard!

Aerial views of the United States and spotting the Golden Gate Bridge

Inspired by Keith at Velvet Escape, I spent lots of time on my flight peering out of the tiny airplane window at the scenery below.  I loved the order and simplicity of the farms strewn across America’s heartland, and I marvelled at the Rocky Mountains as we passed over their snowy peaks.  However, I felt the most glee and nearly shrieked when we began our descent and the majestic Golden Gate Bridge came into view.  Those who know me know that I’m a California girl at heart and seeing this iconic symbol of “home” made me so happy!  I had a fantastic few days with family who had all gathered to celebrate my grandfather on his 103rd birthday.

Lake Calhoun, Minneapolis, Minnesota

My stay in the San Francisco area was over before I knew it, and I was off to the middle of America to Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Home to some friends from childhood and their beautiful baby boy, I enjoyed babysitting, catching up on gossip and relaxing in general but I was also able to enjoy some new experiences in the Twin Cities area.  The weather was gorgeous so we took the opportunity to walk around Lake Calhoun, one of Minnesota’s thousands of lakes and one of the most popular ones in the Minneapolis metropolitan area. There seemed to be hundreds of people who had the same idea that we did as there were plenty of runners, rollerbladers and even sunbathers along the path that winds around this huge lake for a few miles.  I enjoyed soaking in some sun since it’s been so absent in London lately and loved the scenery.  As a big fan of the sea, I find that I’m learning to love lakes and Lake Calhoun was a perfect candidate to help convince me that lakes can be fun too!

Elephant Parade, London

Though I arrived back to London early in the weekend, I wasn’t ready for the adventures to end, so I set out to have some fun in the city and enjoy the bank holiday weekend before heading back to work.  What better way to enjoy the outdoors than hunting down some of the amazing pieces that are a part of the current Elephant Parade exhibit that’s currently set up throughout central London.  With 250 elephant statues placed all over the city to bring awareness to the endangered Asian elephant, a street art fanatic like myself is really in her element!  I had a great time exploring the London Bridge and Bank areas and spotting these fun and whimsical pieces.  I can’t wait to spot them all and share more photos before the exhibit closes in July.

Have you been on any adventures at home or abroad lately?
