The next in our series on urban parks is Mexico’s Chapultepec Park.
Meaning “The Place of Grasshoppers,” Chapultepec Park offers visitors a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of surrounding Mexico City, one of the most densely populated cities in the world.

Full of lakes and hills, Chapultepec Park is located on a hill that was once the site that the Aztecs called home in the 1200s upon their arrival from northern Mexico. Not only does the park contain plenty of well-needed open space for residents and visitors to enjoy, but it is also the site on which the Mexican Presidential residence is located.

Those seeking a break from the heat and sunshine can hop into a pedal boat and take a self-guided tour of one of the several lakes in the park. Or, grab a cold drink at one of the park’s many small cafés and spend some time people-watching.

Chapultepec Park is not only great for outdoor activities, but it’s also a good place to soak in some Mexican history. Check out the Natural History Museum or the National Museum of Anthropology and History. The latter contains what is thought to be the world’s best collection of Pre-Columbian art and artefacts and definitely worth a visit.

Regardless of what you choose to do with your time in the park, any experience Chapultepec is sure to remind you of the importance of open space and places to breathe and relax, especially in such a busy city.
