The first Travel Monday article of the New Year will be featuring a city close to my heart, my birthplace and native land of Los Angeles, USA.
A huge sprawling metropolis in sunny southern California on the west coast of the United States, the idea of Los Angeles conjures up many different images for different people. For some, it’s Hollywood and movie stars, for others the beach and long coastline and others think of traffic jams, violence and generic sprawl. The beauty of Los Angeles is that there is a little something for everyone.

The second-most visited spot in all of California behind Disneyland, Venice Beach is a spot to visit for people watching, beach days or shopping for kitschy souvenirs. Stop by Muscle Beach to see where actor-turned Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger got his start pumping iron. Visit the myriad street performers offering a variety of different shows of skill and talent. Or, just soak in the ambience of this beach that has been made famous as a backdrop in hundreds of different movies and television shows. It’s the ultimate LA spot- a little bit weird, a little bit wild, but all parts unique and fun.

From Sunset to Sunset – embrace Los Angeles car culture to the fullest with a ride from the Pacific Ocean all the way to downtown Los Angeles on the famous Sunset Boulevard. Enjoy the sunset at the beach and continue along the boulevard to enjoy the nightlife and movie star home sightings along the way. Be spotted by the paparazzi as you enjoy happy hour at Miyagi’s on Sunset and enjoy the high-end shops as you go.

Of course a city the size of Los Angeles is impossible to sum up in a simple post – other spots to enjoy include the typical Hollywood Boulevard and Walk of Fame, Disneyland and the authentic Mexican flavour and feeling of Olvera Street, one of the oldest in the city.
With sunshine on over 300 days a year, Los Angeles is a great place to visit to escape the bitter cold and snow of winter in England. Fly from London to Los Angeles from only £404 this April to enjoy all this huge city has to offer.
